Mario Batali films segment for “The Chew” with Grand Traverse Pie Company at the National Cherry FestivalPosted on Jul 9, 2014 in Community, News, Pie Blog, Traverse City | 1 comment
If there was anyone who didn’t know that Mario Batali loved Michigan, they must know now.
Earlier this week, the celebrity chef was in Traverse City, Michigan at the National Cherry Festival to tape a segment for his popular show “The Chew,” which airs weekday mornings on ABC.
Batali stopped in at the Open Space tent area to chat with Grand Traverse Pie Company co-founder Mike Busley, who was on hand for the Cherry Festival festivities that draw hundreds of thousands of spectators during the week-long event. Batali has shared his love of GT Pie Company pie and food in the past, mentioning the pie on “The Chew” and in social media.
Batali knows firsthand how amazing Michigan and Northern Michigan are — he vacations here during the summer months. MLive.com’s John Gonzalez has a wonderful write-up of Mario’s visit and filming session, pointing out that Batalia took the time to greet and pose for photos with fans who recognized him.
The Grand Traverse Pie Company once again has a strong presence at the Cherry Festival. GT Pie Co.’s cherry pie is the signature cherry pie of the festival and is available at the Open Space and also will be served at various official events throughout the festival. In addition, Grand Traverse Pie Company continues their commitment to giving back to the community through the Make and Bake event. On Thursday, July 10, from 10 AM to 3 PM at the Open Space, kids will have the chance to make their own mini cherry pie to take home with them. Proceeds from the event (where donations are accepted) go to Traverse Bay Children’s Advocacy Center.
The National Cherry Festival runs through Saturday, July 12. For more information about the Grand Traverse Pie Company, connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest or visit us at http://gtpie.com.
