Celebrate Summer with the Return of Vernors Cherry Pie

You asked for it and now it’s back! Vernors Cherry Pie will make its return to our shops beginning July 1st. Introduced last year for Vernors’ 150th anniversary, this pie quickly became a fan favorite. Our hope is that this special pie reminds you of simple summer days.

Vernors Cherry Pie at Grand Traverse Pie CompanyVernor’s Ginger Ale is one of the nation’s oldest soft drinks and was first served to the public in 1866 by Detroit pharmacist Dr. James Vernor. Any Michigander grew up drinking this delicious gingery beverage.

Today, Vernors ties back to good things people remember about their childhood and when times were simpler. It is also fondly identified as that effervescent, caramel colored elixir that makes us sneeze when we drink it, the bubbles immediately hitting our noses.

The Vernors Cherry Pie is a perfect balance of cherries, ginger, and that famous Vernors flavor and is then topped with beautiful lattice dough. The cherries in the Vernors pie are Michigan Montmorency cherries grown in Northern Michigan. They offer a tangy deliciousness when baked into the flaky homemade crust. Every bite is guaranteed to be a perfect Michigan treat!

This special summer pie is available July 1st through September 10th at all of our 16 GT Pie shops as well as for shipping coast to coast in our online store.

Hello, My Grandfather and I would drink Vernor’s together in Detroit in the 60’s. I couldn’t find the pie on your website to order. If it’s unavailable to order, would you please share the recipe? I’m sure mine won’t be as good as yours but I would like to try to make it. We have Vernors here in Santa Fe because I asked the manager at Walgreen’s to order it. Yeah! Thank you.
    Sincerely, Nina

Hi Nina, thank you for your question! We unfortunately just finished shipping of the Vernors Cherry Pie but it’s still available at our 16 locations through this week. We actually use Vernors syrup (like from a pop fountain) as well as lots of ginger for this recipe. It pairs very nicely with the actual Vernors Ginger Ale. 🙂 How fun that you are able to buy it all the way in Santa Fe. I’m sure it brings back lots of memories.

What is the price of your famous cherry pie, including shipping, that I saw on THE CHEW, that Mario Bertali spoke about? Ina Smith

Hello, Ina! Thank you for your question. It was very kind of Mario and Clinton to mention our cherry pie today on The Chew today. Mario’s favorite is the Grand Traverse Cherry Crumb Pie but he has also sent the Old Mission Cherry (with the pastry top) to his friends. You can find information about shipping these pies on our Online Store at shop.gtpie.com. Let us know if you have any questions!
