Deliciously Different: Vernors Cherry Pie at GT Pie
Ready for something deliciously different? Our bakers at Grand Traverse Pie Company have created a brand new pie to remind you of simple summer days. We proudly announce the new Vernors Cherry Pie! This pie embodies the spirit of two Michigan companies working together.
Vernors ties back to good things people remember about their childhood and when times were simpler. It is also fondly identified as that effervescent, caramel colored elixir that makes us sneeze when we drink it, the bubbles immediately hitting our noses. The cherries in this new Vernors pie are Michigan Montmorency cherries grown in Northern Michigan. They offer a tangy deliciousness when baked into the flaky homemade crust.
The “Deliciously Different” soda, which originated out of Detroit, Michigan in 1866, is celebrating its 150th birthday and we at Grand Traverse Pie Company are also celebrating our 20th birthday this summer. What better way to enjoy a pie that is made from two well respected Michigan brands.
The Vernors Cherry Pie is a perfect balance of cherries, ginger and that famous Vernors flavor and is then topped with beautiful lattice dough. Every bite is guaranteed to be a perfect Michigan treat!
This new summer pie is available July 1st through September 11th at all of our 16 GT Pie shops as well as for shipping coast to coast in our online store.

If only Vernors would go back to the older recipe when didn’t have high fructose syrup it would be healthier for us.

The cherry ginger pie is delicious. The ginger cuts the sweetness so that the pie is oh-do-yummy!!

Hi Thomas, the Vernors Cherry Pie is part of our Fusion Pie line of premium pies which combines Michigan products. We have to source special inventory items and spend more time in development to create the flavor pairings. Thank you for your question!
Is there any chance of this pie coming back? I was not able to make it to michigan last summer and since I lived there most of my life Vernors is my favorite soda so the idea of TC Cherries and Vernors gingery goodness in a pie sounds like a match made in heaven! If not do you have the recipe in a cookbook or something so I can attempt it on my own?
Hi Jim, you are in luck! I just published a new blog post yesterday about the Vernors Cherry Pie returning for the summer. It will be back in our shops July 1st through September 10th. We had a lot of guest requests to bring this delicious pie back. It was a huge favorite last summer. Additionally, we can ship the pie to your doorstep if you’re unable to make it to Michigan.
