9&10 News Looks Back at 30 Years of Grand Traverse Pie Company
This year marks a special milestone for Grand Traverse Pie Company: 30 years of serving up pie, comfort food and a little taste of Michigan.
9&10 News recently sat down with founders Mike and Denise Busley to look back at the company’s story, from opening the first shop in Traverse City in July 1996 to growing into 11 locations and sharing our pies through supermarkets across the region.
Through all that growth, some things have never changed. Our pies are still made one at a time, in small batches and with Michigan ingredients whenever possible. The story also explores the family traditions behind favorites like our Cherry Crumb Pie, the meaning of our signature pie heart and the next generation’s growing role in the company.
We are grateful for every guest, employee and community that has been part of our first 30 years. We look forward to continuing the tradition of bringing people together around classic comfort food for many years to come.
