Grand Traverse Pie Company and Pure Michigan celebrate ‘National Pie Day’ with free pie
Grand Traverse Pie Company will celebrate the fruits of Michigan during National Pie Day on Wednesday, January 23, 2013. Each Grand Traverse Pie Shop will be serving up a FREE SLICE of Michigan fruit pie with any purchase all day on ‘Pie Day.’
“We are serving Michigan fruit pie for National Pie Day as a salute to our Michigan business and agriculture” stated Mike Busley, founder of Grand Traverse Pie Company. “Michigan has a great bounty of natural resources and commodities to be extremely proud of. We are thrilled to serve up the comforts of pie with a Pure Michigan twist,” Busley went on to say.
Those who can’t celebrate Pie Day in person can still have their pie and eat it too. Grand Traverse Pie Company and Pure Michigan will offer fans on Twitter the chance to win a whole pie every hour between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EST on January 23rd. To be eligible to win, fans can simply tweet their favorite type of pie to both @PureMichigan and @GTPie. Tweets must include the hashtag #puremichiganpie and entrants must follow both Pure Michigan and Grand Traverse Pie Company on Twitter. Pure Michigan will choose one winner at random each hour; winners will be contacted through Twitter. Additional details will be available on the Pure Michigan blog on January 23rd.
Pure Michigan is encouraging fans nationwide to post photos of pies to the Pure Michigan Facebook wall during the week of January 21st. One fan photo will then be featured at the end of the week. Bakers and fans alike can also add their favorite pie recipes to Pinterest, using the #puremichigan or #puremichiganpie hashtags.
National Pie Day was created by the American Pie Council and is dedicated to the celebration of pie. This day is the perfect opportunity to pass on the love and enjoyment of pie eating and making to future generations.
The Grand Traverse Pie Company offers 30 varieties of hand-made pies. Each GT Pie Shop bakes the made-from-scratch pies every day! GTPC makes over 95% of its purchases from Michigan companies and promotes two of the State’s key ingredients- agriculture and commerce. Michigan fruit (cherries, apples and blueberries) sugar, and flour all come from our State’s growers and processors, and GTPC will drive nearly $20 million into Michigan’s economy this year. Visit shop.gtpie.com to ship your favorite pie to friends and family.

‘Saw you on Fox and Friends today! We’ll see you in Traverse City in the summer. Our son, Joseph Suttle and his business partner, Ben Coe, own “That’s a Pizza” in TC. We love their pizza, but we’ll be eating some cherry pie too this summer!
Love your cherry pie and the fresh cherries we picked out on the Peninsula. Your dried cherries are also delicious in salads.
Love your cherry pie and all things made with your delicious cherries.
The pie on Fox & Friends looked like pure indulgence.
