Pure Michigan Fruits of Summer Pie

GT Pie Shops this Memorial Day Weekend and Select Grocery Stores Throughout the Summer Season in Michigan and Beyond

Grand Traverse Pie Company and Pure Michigan are teaming up to celebrate Michigan’s fruits of summer.

The newest pie addition to the menu at Grand Traverse Pie Company is the Pure Michigan Fruits of Summer Pie made with Michigan grown cherries and blueberries topped with oatmeal, cinnamon and brown sugar crumb topping. Each Pure Michigan ‘Fruits of Summer Pie’ is handmade one-by-one with real Rubel Michigan Blueberries grown at True Blue Farms in Southwest Michigan and Montmorency Michigan Cherries grown by the Sayler family in Williamsburg, near Traverse City, Michigan.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Grand Traverse Pie Company to highlight Michigan farmers and our state’s rich agricultural diversity,” said Kelly Wolgamott, interim Vice President of Travel Michigan, part of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “Bringing the flavors of Michigan-grown cherries and blueberries together in one Michigan-made pie creates a delicious Pure Michigan pairing that is the perfect way to celebrate the fruits of summer.”

The partnership between Grand Traverse Pie Company and Pure Michigan will also spotlight the importance of early childhood development by supporting initiatives at MI Kids Matter.

‘Our Michigan growers NURTURE each cherry and blueberry that go into our pies.  Caring for fruit early on leads to a better pie…just like NURTURING each child leads to greater outcome, stronger humans and greater success later in life,” noted GT Pie Company’s Co-founders Mike and Denise Busley.

Mi Kids Matter is a place to find what parents and families need to give their child their best chance at health, happiness, and success late in life. “We all have big goals for our kids. We want them to meet their milestones, be ready for kindergarten, become strong readers, graduate from high school, and get the skills they need for good paying jobs,” said Michelle Richard, acting director at MiLEAP. “Here at MiLEAP, we’re connecting Michiganders with tools to thrive at every stage of their life. We’re so proud to partner with the GT Pie Company to spread the word about resources like Mi Kids Matter which was designed especially for people who are helping our youngest Michiganders get what they need to learn and grow.”

Mi Kids Matter is a resource from the Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential Office of Great Start.  More information can be found at MiLEAP’s website www.Michigan.gov/MiKidsMatter.

Grand Traverse Pie Company shines a bright light on our Michigan agricultural growers and processors as all our cherries, apples, and blueberries are from Michigan farms across the state.  Additionally, all of the flour and sugar used to make each and every pie comes from Michigan farmers as well.  Over 90 % of all Grand Traverse Pie Company purchases come from Michigan farmers, processors, and suppliers.

The Pure Michigan Fruits of Summer Pie will be available mid-May through September. It will be sold in both 6-inch and 9-inch sizes in all of the GT Pie locations, online at www.GTPie.com and in over 100 supermarkets in both upper and lower peninsula.

“This is the first step in a continuing relationship between Grand Traverse Pie, Pure Michigan, and the folks at Mi Kids Matter.  Grand Traverse Pie will launch the second phase with an exclusive first-time release of the Fall Harvest Pie in October. “Grand Traverse Pie is honored to be aligned with these vital organizations and the hardworking growers and processors of our great state.  We call it “The Power of Pie!”, said Busley.

“Grand Traverse Pie company is a family-owned business that has been warming hearts in Michigan communities and beyond for nearly 30 years. We are proud to be part of this collaboration that will bring a delicious treat to Michiganders and visitors alike this spring and summer,” said Wolgamott.
